Ghaziabad. The first six-coach rapid train, which ran on a trailer from Gujarat’s Sanwali plant on June 1, traveling across four states, has reached Duhai on Sunday. Its trial run will be done from August itself from Duhai depot. For this, preparations have been made from laying the track to arranging electricity. The trial will be held in three phases. After this, people will be able to ride it in the priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai in March 2023.
At present, all the coaches are kept on the trailer. The trailer is parked on the side of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. The coaches will be unloaded from the trailer on Monday. After this they will be connected and the curtain will be lifted from them. The coaches of Rapid Rail have come through various cities of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and UP. From Eastern Peripheral in UP, via Gautam Mudh Nagar, reached Ghaziabad’s Duhai. All Rapid Rail coaches were brought under tight security on six large trailers. The road blockage was eliminated by first inspecting the road in every city and then coordinating with the traffic police. NCRTC CPRO Puneet Vats says that after bringing the Rapid Rail coach inside the double depot, the work of carefully unloading and connecting the track will be started for technical trials.
Technical trials will be completed by July
Before the arrival of Rapid Rail, preparations have been completed at Duhai Depot located in the priority section. Technical trials will be conducted by July to test the various systems of the train inside the depot. This will happen in two phases. The third phase will be a trial run. The internal-bay line has been prepared for technical trials at the depot. For the operation of trains, an administrative building has been made equal to the track in the depot. The depot has 11 stabling lines, two workshop lines, three internal-bay lines (IBL), and one heavy internal cleaning line with one workshop and one internal-bay line in the final stages.
First coach ready in 11 months, 30 trains will run on the corridor
30 trains will run in the proposed 82 km long rapid rail corridor up to Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut. All the Rail Coaches of Rapid are being manufactured at Alstrom Plant in Savli, Gujarat. The construction work of the first coach of Rapid Rail started on 15 July 2021 at the plant. In such a situation, the first train set of six coaches has been prepared in a record time of 11 months. Rest of the coach work is going on at a brisk pace. Initially 13 trains will operate in the first section of 17 km long from Sahibabad to Duhai. Arrangements have been made to park 13 trains simultaneously at Duhai depot. At the same time, the remaining 17 trains will be parked in the depot being built at Modipuram in Meerut.
More than a century facilities
In the model coach of Rapid Rail, passengers will get more facilities than Shatabdi train. In the six-coach train, four coaches will be of standard class, one coach of women and one coach of premium class. Standard coach will have three doors to exit the rail on one side and premium coach will have two doors. The premium coach fare will be higher than the standard. In case of emergency, rapid rail can be used as a green corridor. Keeping this in view, NCRTC has earmarked a special place for carrying stretcher in the coach. In case of medical emergency, the patient can be transported from Meerut to Delhi in 55 minutes.
20 km section will open every six months
First of all, the country’s first rapid train will run in Ghaziabad. Rapid Rail will start running in priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai in March 2023. Thereafter, NCRTC plans to open the next 20 km section every six months. In such a situation, after the first section, the second section will open from Duhai to Meerut South in October 2023. Then in June 2024, the section from Sahibabad to Delhi and in 2025 from Meerut South to Modipuram in Meerut will start.
95 percent work completed in the first section, train will be available every five minutes
In the first section of Rapid from Sahibabad to Duhai, more than 95 per cent work has been completed. Now the form of the station of the corridor is visible. The speed of Rapid Rail is maximum 180 kmph and minimum is 100 kmph. In the first section, there will be a total of five stations including Sahibabad, Meerut Road Tiraha, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai depots. The second section passing through Ghaziabad will have Muradnagar, Modinagar North and South stations. At the same time, the number of RAPID stations in Meerut are 13. Rail will be available every five to 10 minutes like metro to the passengers throughout the corridor.

– There will be enough space in the coach for passengers to stand and keep luggage, there will be racks
Mobile and laptop charging socket and WiFi facility at every seat
– Provision for carrying wheelchairs and stretchers near the doors for the handicapped
There will be a hook to hang the coat, there will also be a magazine holder
– According to the light outside, the lighting system will be controlled in the cabin itself
– Energy generated through braking system will be used
– Automatic train operation system will be used in the train
– Recline facility in premium coaches, seats will also have handlocks
