Ghaziabad News: After spending crores in ‘Namami Gange Yojana’, Hindon became clean only in Chhijarsi

Sahibabad. Despite spending crores of rupees in the Namami Gange scheme of the central government to make the rivers clean, the water of the Hindon river has become pure at only one place, the Chijarsi point. This has been revealed from the report of the Pollution Control Board. The scope of the Hindon river, which originates from the hills of Shakumbhari Devi in Saharanpur, is spread over an area of about 400 kilometers, in which the Pollution Control Board periodically tests samples from seven places. Under the Namami Gange scheme, about Rs 400 crore is estimated to be spent to purify the Hindon river.

During the Corona period, the water of the Hindon river was free from pollution and became suitable for aquatic animals, but after two years the condition only started deteriorating. According to the report of the Pollution Control Board, except for Chhijarsi Point, the rest of the water in the river is not suitable for irrigation, aquatic animals or birds. This is the reason why the arrival of foreign birds in the Hindon river has reduced every year.

Social worker Sushil Raghav says that the main reason for the pollution of the Hindon river is the waste coming out of the industrial units. Although the officials of the Pollution Control Board make projects every year to make Hindon clean, but the benefits are very less. It was told in the report that from Saharanpur to Gautam Buddha Nagar, the Hindon river flows through many districts of the state. In this distance, the level of dissolved oxygen, organic chemical oxygen ie BOD in the river water is quite dangerous.

In such a situation, whenever the pollution control board collects samples for testing, its report is often bad. The board released its report after taking water samples in February, in which water has been cleared from Saharanpur to Noida at only one place i.e. Chijarsi. The water of this place can be used for irrigation and animals. Apart from this, the water condition of Hindon river has been recorded in very poor ie E-category at other places.

The pollution board takes water samples from seven places for testing. These include Maheshpur in Saharanpur, Sardhana Baghpat Road in Meerut, Karhera in Ghaziabad, GT Road near Hindon Bridge and Chhijarsi Bridge on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Apart from this, sample of Hindon water is taken from Noida Kulesara.
